Digital color images from single chip digital cameras are obtained by interpolating a color filter array (CFA). In the figure below light goes through the lens and hits the image sensor plane containing the CFA.
Here is a comparison of DMMD Demosaicing against other methods. Each image was sampled using the Bayer Array and then reconstructed. From left to right the images are:
